How it works

Three steps, about a minute

No catalog skills needed. If you can take a photo, you can identify a stamp.

  1. 1

    Photograph the stamp

Lay one stamp on a plain, light surface. Use daylight and fill most of the frame with the stamp.

  2. 2

    Read the result

You see the country, year, catalog number, condition notes and an estimated value range.

  3. 3

    Save it to your collection

Each stamp is filed by country with its value. Add notes, compare similar stamps and export a list.

All questions
Can I identify a stamp online for free?

Yes. You can try one stamp right here on this page, and the iPhone app gives you free scans after you download it. Our guides and country value pages are free for everyone.

Is Stamp Identifier free?

Downloading is free and your first scans are free. An optional subscription unlocks unlimited scans. You can cancel any time in your Apple ID settings.

How accurate is the identification?

For most common and classic stamps the app finds the right issue on the first try. Worn, cut or very rare stamps are harder. In those cases the app shows the closest matches so you can compare the design, perforation and color yourself.

Where do the values come from?

Value ranges combine catalog prices, recent auction results and market listings. The real price of your copy depends on condition, centering, gum and margins, so treat the range as a starting point. For a stamp that may be worth a lot, ask an expert for a certificate.

Can I identify damaged or partial stamps?

Often, yes. Tears, thins and heavy cancellations make it harder, but the design is usually enough. The app tells you when it is less sure.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. The app runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 16.6 or later. Android users can use our free guides and value pages on any device.

Does the app work offline?

Identification needs an internet connection because the analysis runs on our servers. Your saved collection and its details stay available offline.
